Our personal injury lawyers are currently investigating potential lawsuits Zimmer Durom Hip Replacement Part on behalf of individuals who received Zimmer hip implants and experienced loosening of their hip implant or the need for additional surgery to correct a failed hip implant.

For months after doctors started reporting problems with Durom Cup hip implants, Zimmer ignored safety concerns and refused to conduct a full investigation into the safety of its hip implants. While Zimmer is now taking steps in the right direction, the company has allowed thousands of people to receive artificial hip implants without adequately disclosing the risks and necessary surgical techniques.

Zimmer Hip Implant Failure

Problems with Zimmer hip implants surfaced in April 2008 when Dr. Lawrence Dorr, a renowned orthopedic surgeon in Los Angeles,

California, publicly warned other orthopedists that his patients were experiencing high Zimmer hip implant failure rates. According to Dr Lawrence Dorr, patients receiving the Durom Acetabular Cup hip implant often experienced overwhelming pain following their hip replacement surgery, requiring them to undergo additional corrective surgery.

As it turns out, the high implant failure rates were caused by the Durom Acetabular Cup’s inability to bond with the host bone, causing the implanted hip replacement part to migrate. To address this problem, Zimmer temporarily suspended Durom Acetabular Cup sales in July 2008 while it updated the Durom Acetabular Cup labeling information and implemented surgical technique training.

Unfortunately, Zimmer allowed more than 12,000 people in the United States to receive hip implants with the Durom Acetabular Cup before it suspended hip implant sales, even though Zimmer knew or should have known that doctors were provided with inadequate warnings and instructions about the surgical techniques required to avoid hip implant failure. Some evidence even suggests that Zimmer was aware of the problems with its hip implants as far back as 2007.
