Necrosis is a condition that causes a localized, unnatural death of living cells and tissue. Necrosis begins with an individual cell swelling. As a result, the cell’s membranes are disrupted and cellular material and organelles are broken down. The ultimate result is lysis and cell death, with the rupture of the exterior cell membrane and the expulsion of cellular contents. Due to the unnatural cell death during Necrosis, the clean up of the cellular material is very difficult and disorderly. Often the chemicals released by cell death can severely harm surrounding cells, leading to additional cell and tissue death. Necrosis is irreversible and without an established method of treatment.

Symptoms of Necrosis can include:

  • Abnormal swelling
  • Joint pain
  • Limited range of motion
  • Bone and surrounding joint surface deterioration and collapse

Necrosis can occur from an inadequate blood supply to the cell tissues and from injury, infection, disease, radiation, or chemicals. Necrosis has also been linked to a serious fungal infection, Fusarium Keratitis, a severe side effect of the contact lens solution Renu Moistureloc. The Fusarium Keratitis fungus has been implicated in triggering a number serious diseases including Esophageal Cancer.
