Pradaxa lawsuits are making “steady progress,” according to Judge David Herdon, who is presiding over the Pradaxa multidistrict litigation. The Pradaxa lawsuits are well within the discovery phase, with tens of thousands of documents produced by both sides. Depositions of Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceutical company employees are expected to begin soon.

“We’re really starting now get to the meat of the litigation,” Judge Herndon said. “Pace is picking up more.”

Pradaxa lawsuits are filed by patients who suffered serious Pradaxa bleeding injuries after taking the anti-coagulant drug. The lawsuits allege that Boehringer Ingelheim failed to adequately warn patients about Pradaxa side effects, especially the lack of an antidote to its blood-thinning qualities, leading to thousands of patient injuries and hundreds of deaths.

The Pradaxa MDL includes 192 plaintiffs who sustained Pradaxa bleeding and other injuries, and is underway in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois before Judge Herdon.  The number of Pradaxa lawsuits filed is expected to grow.

Fatal Pradaxa Bleeding Leads to Increasing Pradaxa Lawsuits

Pradaxa was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2010 to lower the risks of strokes and embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation. It was the first new blood-thinner drug to be introduced to the market in over 50 years. However, it also carries the risk of deadly side effects, including:

  • Cerebral hemorrhage – Pradaxa bleeding in the brain.
  • Gastrointestinal (stomach) bleeding.
  • Severe Pradaxa internal bleeding following a minor trauma, such as a fall.
  • Death from serious Pradaxa internal bleeding.

Although all blood-thinner drugs may cause bleeding, Pradaxa bleeding is more dangerous because there is no easy way to reverse its anti-coagulant properties once it begins. This may account for the over 540 Pradaxa deaths and 3,781 reports of Pradaxa injuries reported to the FDA in 2011. Uncontrolled Pradaxa bleeding may lead to fatal consequences.

Pradaxa Side Effects Lawsuits

If you or a loved one took Pradaxa and experienced severe Pradaxa bleeding, consider joining the hundreds of other patients filing Pradaxa lawsuits to seek justice. Pradaxa lawsuits seek compensation for victims’ medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other injuries. Pradaxa lawsuits allege that the company failed to disclose the lack of an antidote for the blood thinning drug, and that the company is responsible for patients’ injuries and deaths.
