Levitra Side Effects: Loss of Vision, & Blindness

Some Levitra side effects affect patients’ vision. Although it is rare, men who take Levitra may experience the following vision-related side effects:

  • See a blue tinge to objects
  • Have difficulty telling the difference between blue and green
  • Have eye pain
  • Have blurred vision

In people taking PDE5 inhibitors, including Levitra, there have been rare cases of a condition called non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). This Levitra side effect, sometimes called eye stroke, can lead to sudden blindness in one or both eyes. In response to a request from the FDA, Levitra’s manufacturer updated the drug’s warning label in 2005 to address the potential risk of sudden vision loss as a Levitra side effect.

In most cases, people who experienced sudden vision loss or blindness while taking Levitra already had risk factors that increased their chances of developing NAION. Some of the risk factors for this side effect include:

  • Being over the age of 50
  • Having diabetes
  • Having high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Having heart disease
  • Having high cholesterol
  • Smoking

Levitra Side Effects: Hearing Loss

In 2007, the FDA issued a health alert concerning newly discovered Levitra side effects. Specifically, the FDA announced that sudden hearing loss had been reported by several Levitra users, and in some cases, the sudden hearing loss was accompanied by tinnitus and dizziness. In response to the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) Levitra side effect alert, Levitra’s manufacturer revised the Levitra warning label to address this potential side effect. Now, Levitra’s warning label cautions users about the risk of sudden hearing loss. In addition, Levitra’s warning label contains instructions describing what patients should do if they experience this serious side effect.
