Women who have already signed on with transvaginal mesh attorneys are now being bombarded with calls from telemarketers asking them to drop their case, and pay them instead, according to a Fox News report in North Carolina.

After calling attorneys to help them file a claim, an article on June 14th indicates that many women have received calls from people who flood their phone lines with offers that promise quick cash up front.

“Somehow or another they get my number,” said one woman, whose began receiving calls soon after she called a vaginal mesh lawyer in April. “Offers like if you would drop your lawyer we would send you a check in 3 days for $250,000.”

Vaginal Mesh Telemarketers Call on Weekends, Ask for Money

How these scammers got her information is still unknown, according to the article. One person who called asked for a $500 up-front cost to receive transvaginal mesh compensation, and “wanted to send his guy to my door,” according to the North Carolina woman.

Her attorney later confirmed that the phone calls were not coming from the Firm with which she is retained.

“But if you get a call and they don’t state they are from a law firm don’t do it. It’s a scam,” the woman goes on to warn other vaginal mesh plaintiffs.

Given the rising number of women who have gone on to file lawsuits over this surgical material, one may wonder how many have been steered away by scam callers who promise up-front payouts.

Included in several federal multidistrict litigations currently underway in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of West Virginia are nearly 60,000 claims filed by plaintiffs who allege mesh erosion, chronic pain, pain during sexual intercourse and other complications.

These lawsuits blame the Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, Ethicon, Boston Scientific, American Medical Systems and C.R. Bard for their injuries, which they claim to have been inadequately warned about prior to surgery.

Thousands of claims against Ethicon and C.R. Bard have also been filed at the state court level in two proceedings located in New Jersey’s Atlantic County Superior Court.
