Hydroxycut May Cause Liver Damage

Hydroxycut is a popular dietary supplement used for weight-loss and muscle-enhancement manufactured by Canadian corporation lovate Health Sciences, Inc.  In May 2009, after at least 23 users experienced liver damage after taking Hydroxycut, the  U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDAâ€?) issued a Hydroxycut recall and encouraged dieters to immediately discontinue use.  In April 2009, the World Journal of Gastroenterology had reported that hydroxycitric acid, an ingredient in Hydroxycut, may cause liver damage.  In most cases, discontinuation of the product repaired all liver damage, but one 19-year-old consumer died from liver injuries, and another consumer had such severe liver damage that a transplant was required a liver transplant. The Hydroxycut Lawyers at Bernstein Liebhard LLP are investigating possible Hydroxycut liver damage.

Hydroxycut Liver Damage Symptoms

The following side effects of Hydroxycut are symptoms of liver damage, and if left untreated, could result in liver failure or death:

  • Jaundice, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes
  • Brown urine
  • Light-colored stool
  • Excessive fatigue
  • Stomach or abdominal pain
  • Weakness
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite

Those suffering from such symptoms are encouraged to seek a doctor and ask to be tested for liver damage.

Other Hydroxycut Side Effects

The FDA warned about other Hydroxycut side effects besides Hydroxycut liver damage linked to Hydroxycut supplements. Hydroxycut users have experienced seizures and cardiovascular problems, ranging from irregular heartbeat to heart attack.  Also, Hydroxycut could cause Rhabdomyolysis, a kind of muscle damage leading to kidney failure. These side effects are rare, but serious.
