Gadolinium attorneys represent individuals harmed by gadolinium-based
contrasting agents (GBCAs), which have been used to enhance MRI scans since 1988. Although GBCAs are in some ways beneficial, they can also trigger the development of some severe health complications. One of the most serious gadolinium side effects is nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF).
At Bernstein Liebhard LLP, our gadolinium attorneys represent individuals who’ve developed NSF as a result gadolinium use during an MRI.
Gadolinium Side Effects: NSF
Any patient who receives an injection of a gadolinium agent may experience the following mild side effects:

For most, these side effects are temporary and will dissipate as the patient's kidneys cleanse gadolinium from the body.
However, some patients, namely those with pre-existing kidney conditions, are also at a high risk of developing NSF, a skin condition that causes scar tissue to form on the skin and/or connective tissues of the body (the muscles, nerves, cartilage, etc.).
As NSF progresses, it causes the skin to thicken, tighten and redden (or darken). Over time, the buildup of scar tissue in the connective tissues limits a patient's mobility and, without treatment, can cause death.
Sadly, no cure can eliminate NSF once patients develop it. In the absence of a cure, NSF treatment involves medications and various therapies to ease symptoms and prevent the condition from progressing. Because NSF is a serious condition that requires lifelong treatment, any patient who has developed it after receiving a gadolinium injection should seek medical care and legal help.
