Epogen Lawsuit: Manufacturing an Unsafe Drug
Injured victims have filed Epogen lawsuits alleging that Amgen manufactured an unsafe drug. The lawsuits allege that studies showed that Epogen use by cancer patients may actually accelerate their cancers’ progression and shorten survival rates. In a 9 to 5 vote, the FDA’s advisory panel recommended that Epogen should not be used by patients with breast or head and neck cancer.

Lawsuits further highlight that another study revealed that Epogen users with kidney disease may develop serious cardiovascular problems, including heart attacks and strokes. Epogen lawsuits allege that Amgen should be held liable for manufacturing and marketing an unsafe drug.
Epogen Lawsuit: Illegal Marketing
Epogen lawsuits allege that Amgen engaged in illegal marketing that placed Epogen users at risk. Epogen lawsuits note that Congressmen John Dingell and Bart Stupak (both Michigan Democrats) sent letters to Amgen stating that their Epogen marketing campaign convinced doctors to prescribe Epogen at unsafe doses. Lawsuits also note that in May 2007, the New York Times reported that about 50% of kidney disease patients received Epogen doses above the FDA approved levels. The article also reported that American patients received double the Epogen doses compared to European patients.
