A joint status conference in the DePuy ASR MDL litigation will be held on July 26, 2011 in San Francisco, California.  Although the federal DePuy ASR MDL is currently underway in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio before the Honorable David A. Katz, the next scheduled status conference will be held in California state court before the Honorable Richard A. Kramer.  Judge Kramer is overseeing the consolidated California state court DePuy ASR litigation.  Although the meeting will be held in Judge Kramer’s courtroom, because it is a joint status conference, Judge Katz will also be presiding.  Additionally, other lawyers involved in the DePuy ASR litigation are encouraged to participate telephonically.  The purpose of this next hearing is to promote federal and state coordination of the DePuy ASR litigation.

Previously, on June 1, 2011, a similar joint status conference was held in New Jersey.  Judge Brian R. Martinotti, who is overseeing the coordinated DePuy ASR cases in New Jersey state court, hosted that conference.  As with the New Jersey joint status conference, the goal of the upcoming California conference will be the same—to ensure effective communication on both the state and federal levels so that discovery issues are consistent and expedited as the DePuy ASR litigation heats up nationwide.

Stayed tuned for a full account following the conference.
