Cialis Side Effects

Cialis side effects have been studied extensively. In fact, clinical trials Cialishave documented the side effects of Cialis in more than 5,700 patients. According to these studies, common Cialis side effects, occurring in more than 2 percent of Cialis patients, include:

  • headache
  • facial flushing
  • indigestion, known as dyspepsia
  • back pain
  • nasal congestion
  • muscle pain (known as myalgia)
  • pain in the arms or legs

In rare cases, Cialis may cause serious side effects occurring in the heart, brain, or blood vessels. These side effects include:

Cialis Side Effects: Loss of Vision, & Blindness
Some Cialis side effects can affect vision. For example, up to 2 percent of people taking Cialis may experience the following side effects:

  • see a blue tinge to objects
  • have difficulty telling the difference between blue and green
  • have eye pain
  • have blurred vision

In people taking PDE5 inhibitors, including Cialis, there have been rare cases of a condition called non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). This Cialis side effect, sometimes called eye stroke, can lead to sudden blindness in one or both eyes. In response to a request from the FDA, Cialis’s manufacturer updated the drug’s warning label in 2005 to address the potential risk of sudden vision loss.

In most cases, people who experienced sudden vision loss or blindness while taking Cialis already had risk factors that increased their chances of developing NAION. Some of the risk factors for this side effect include:

  • being over the age of 50
  • having diabetes
  • having high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • having heart disease
  • having high cholesterol
  • smoking

Cialis Side Effects: Hearing Loss
In 2007, the FDA issued a health alert concerning newly discovered Cialis side effects. Specifically, the FDA announced that sudden hearing loss had been reported by several Cialis users, and in some cases, the sudden hearing loss was accompanied by tinnitus and dizziness. In response to the FDA’s alert, Cialis’s manufacturer revised the Cialis warning label to address this potential side effect. Now, Cialis’s warning label cautions Cialis users about the risk of sudden hearing loss. In addition, Cialis’s warning label contains instructions describing what Cialis patients should do if they experience this serious side effect.
