Chantix Lawsuit Evidence
The Chantix lawsuits point to the fact that Pfizer, during clinical trials, excluded individuals with psychiatric history or current psychiatric symptoms. As a result, Chantix was not evaluated among people with common conditions like depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Each Chantix lawsuit further alleges that Pfizer did not adequately warn doctors and patients about Chantix’s potential psychological effects. Pfizer introduced Chantix in 2006, hoping to revitalize their profits. Following its introduction to the market, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices reviewed reports of Chantix side effects received by the FDA between May 2006 and December 2007. Over the 20 month period, the regulatory agency received 227 reports of suicides and suicide attempts. In response to these staggering statistics, the FDA ordered Pfizer to place a black warning label on Chantix. Chantix sales were down 15% in the third quarter of 2009. Since that time numerous victims or their loved ones have filed Chantix lawsuit complaints.
Each Chantix lawsuit seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages for medical expenses, loss of income, and pain and suffering. In addition, the Chantix lawsuits seek punitive damages against Pfizer.
