Victims injured by Chantix can file lawsuits against Pfizer, Chantix’s manufacturer, seeking compensation for their injuries. Chantix use has been linked to severe side effects including depression, suicide, and seizures. If you or a loved one has been injured by Chantix, you may file a lawsuit to recover for:

  • Medical bills
  • Loss of income
  • Pain and Suffering
  • Permanent disability costs
  • Out-of-pocket expenses

Lawsuit for Unsafe Drug

Lawsuits allege that Pfizer was negligent because it manufactured and marketed an unsafe drug. The FDA approved Chantix in May 2006. By the end of 2006, Chantix was listed among a group of 35 drugs that received more than 100 serious injury reports per calendar quarter. By mid-2007, Chantix ranked third among all drugs in reported problems. In the last quarter of 2007, Chantix users reported 988 adverse events, more than any other marketed drug. Lawsuits assert that Pfizer should be held strictly liable for manufacturing and marketing this unsafe drug.

Lawsuit for Lack of Clinical Trials

Drug manufacturers must perform clinical tests before drugs are marketed. The manufacturer must ensure that the drugs are safe and effective. Chantix lawsuits claim that Pfizer did not perform enough clinical trials before it marketed Chantix. Pfizer failed to conduct Chantix studies using individuals with psychiatric histories or current psychiatric symptoms. Lawsuits allege that if sufficient pre-market testing was performed, Pfizer may have determined that Chantix use was linked to depression and suicide. Victims who experience depressed moods or suicidal thoughts after Chantix use may file a lawsuit against Pfizer.

Lawsuit for Failure to Warn

In November 2007, the FDA notified Pfizer about the potential link between Chantix use and depression. Pfizer waited until May 2008 to change Chantix’s label. During the six month delay, lawsuits allege that thousands of smokers used Chantix and that many developed severe side effects. Chantix lawsuits further allege that Pfizer was negligent for failing to promptly warn Chantix users about its dangerous side effects.
