Current Avandia Litigation & Class Action Lawsuits
AvandiaLawyers have filed a class-action shareholder lawsuit against GlaxoSmithKline alleging that the company failed to disclose the increased health risks that may be associated with its diabetes drug, Avandia. The lawsuit, which was filed in June 2007 in a New York federal court, also names GlaxoSmithKline’s CEO and CFO as defendants.

GlaxoSmithKline’s stock fell sharply in 2007 after the New England Journal of Medicine published study findings suggesting that Avandia increases the risk of heart attacks. According to the lawsuit, GlaxoSmithKline itself had already compiled a similar analysis that also found that Avandia increases the risk of heart attacks. The company, which did not widely publicize this finding, claims it found the analysis unpersuasive, given the fact that several other studies failed to show a significant increase in heart attack risk. Nevertheless, the lawsuit argues that the GlaxoSmithKline top officers artificially inflated GlaxoSmithKline’s stock price by failing to adequately disclose the study findings which revealed the potentially dangerous effects of Avandia.
